Question

I'm on Google Maps and I Run Ads, So Why Isn't My Phone Ringing?

    Last updated: November 6, 2026

Being on the map isn't the same as being picked. People look at reviews, photos and how fast you answer; if any of that is weak they call the next one. First check how many calls came in and how many got answered, rather than how many people saw you.

What "on the map" actually means

Showing up in Google Maps or the local pack means people can find you. It does not mean they choose you. For example, a homeowner in Scarborough searching for a plumber sees three businesses. She picks the one with recent reviews, clear photos and a phone number she trusts she can reach. If your profile looks thin or old, she scrolls past.

Ads don't fix a weak profile

Running ads while your Google profile is weak just sends more people to something they won't call. What that means is you can spend and still stay quiet. Fix the basics first: categories, services, photos from real jobs, hours that match when you answer, and reviews from every customer.

    Check calls, not views

Open last week's numbers and answer three questions:

    1. How many people saw you on Maps or clicked the ad?
    2. How many of those became a call or a form?
    3. How many of those calls got answered on the first try?

If views are fine but calls are low, the profile or the landing page is the problem. If calls come in and nobody picks up, that's a callback problem, not a Maps problem. That's what our local SEO work focuses on, and it's why Local SEO or Google Ads first is the right question before you turn spend up.

So the reason why the phone stays quiet

Usually one of three things: people see you and pick someone else, they try to call and nobody answers, or the tracking never counted the call. Start with answered calls. Then reviews and photos. Then ads.

    FAQ

Why am I on Google Maps but not getting calls?

Being listed isn't the same as being chosen. Weak reviews, thin photos or slow answers send people to the next business.

Should I keep running ads if my Google profile is weak?

Usually no, or keep them small. Ads send more people to the same weak profile. Fix reviews, photos and answer speed first.

What should I check first when the phone isn't ringing?

How many calls came in and how many got answered. Views and clicks alone don't tell you if anyone reached you.

Do reviews matter more than being on the map?

Both matter. The map gets you seen. Reviews help people pick you over the other two results.

How fast should I answer a new call or form?

As fast as you can during your hours. When something's broken, people call the next number if you don't pick up.

Can local SEO and ads work together?

Yes. Ads bring calls now while SEO builds. They work better when the profile and the page are strong enough that people actually call.
