Question

Can I Use a Virtual Office Address for My Google Business Profile?

    Last updated: November 3, 2026

No. Google's guidelines say a mailing address you rent but don't operate from, also known as a virtual office, isn't eligible for a Business Profile (Google Business Profile guidelines). If you go to your customers, use your real base and hide the address, then set a service area. That's allowed, and it's how most trades should be set up.

    What Google says

From Google's guidelines (Google Business Profile guidelines):

    • A rented mailing address you don't operate out of, a virtual office, isn't eligible.
    • P.O. boxes and mailboxes at remote locations aren't acceptable.
    • A service area business can't list a virtual office unless that office is staffed during business hours.
    • An office at a coworking space only counts if it has clear signage, takes customers there during business hours, and is staffed by your own people during business hours.

What a home-based contractor should do

Use your real address, then hide it. Google's own example is a plumber who runs the business from home: clear the address from the profile and set a service area instead (Google Business Profile guidelines). For example, an electrician working out of his house in Vaughan sets his service area to the cities he actually drives to. Customers see the area, not his street.

Why it's not worth the risk

Owners get virtual offices to show up in a city where they don't have a base. The problem is the profile is built on an address Google says isn't eligible. If you want to win more of a city you serve, build a real page for that service and area on your website and get reviews from every customer you do work for there. See can a service area business rank in the map pack without showing an address.
